Bamboo Flooring
Bamboo is a beautiful and relatively inexpensive flooring that is perfect for an eco-friendly kitchen remodeling project. Although bamboo can be as hard as wood, it is technically a grass and therefore grows back very quickly. Oak, maple, and birch trees can take decades to regrow, whereas bamboo can grow at a pace of over a foot per week.
Fluorescent Lights
Or more specifically, compact fluorescent lights, or CFL. CFL bulbs are much more efficient than standard bulbs, typically using only about 50% of the energy to produce the same light output. CFL’s are also much different from their uncomfortable workshop counterparts. They are designed to emit soft, yellow light that is perfect for giving your kitchen a cozy feel.
Scrap Materials
Some furniture makers utilize scrap materials left over from unfinished construction projects, demolitions, or other uncommonly used materials to make solid, beautiful furniture. Often in the form of unique works of art more attractive than standard furniture, buying furniture made of scrap materials is a fantastic eco-friendly kitchen remodeling idea.
Cork
Cork is a renewable resource made from tree bark. In addition to being eco-friendly, cork flooring is resistant to mold and mildew, sound-absorbing, and hypoallergenic, making it perfect for the kitchen.
